They want you tired.
Giving up is not free.

To the one who used to believe and now checks the news and feels nothing. To the one who has already written the resignation letter in your heart. We understand. But before you walk away, count what it costs you. Personally.

Why so many gave up

What happened in 2023, and what is different in 2027

Millions of Nigerians did not give up because they were lazy. They gave up because of what they saw in 2023. Those reasons are real. So is the answer.

“My vote will not count.”
2023

The results portal failed on presidential election day. A quarter of result forms were still missing when the winner was declared.

2027

Every voter is a portal. We photograph every result sheet at the polling unit before it leaves, and run our own count on the night.

“They will rig it anyway.”
2023

Many voters went home after voting. In Adamawa a winner was announced while votes were still being counted.

2027

The Osun Script: nobody goes home. 372,934 citizen agents, and citizens at every ward and LGA collation centre. In Osun in August 2026, it worked.

“The courts will not help.”
2023

The results were upheld. The Supreme Court ruled that uploading results in real time was not mandatory.

2027

We are not waiting for a court. We protect the count where it happens, and every result sheet photo is evidence.

“The opposition is divided.”
2023

Three main challengers split the vote. Together they won far more votes than the winner’s 8.8 million.

2027

South and North on one ticket: Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. One ballot: NDC.

“Nobody turns up anyway.”
2023

Only 26.7% of registered voters came out, down from 43.7% in 2015. 68.5 million stayed home.

2027

Mobilise 20: each of us brings twenty, logged on the Mobilisation Platform across all 176,846 polling units.

“Things might get better under them.”
2023

Many gave the new government a chance: “let the poor breathe.”

2027

We have seen the result: inflation peaked at 34.8% (December 2024), the naira fell to ₦1,690, 35 million in food crisis. 93% now say wrong direction.

“It is not safe.”
2023

Cash scarcity from the naira redesign, violence and intimidation kept many at home.

2027

Go early, go with your twenty, and stay together. There is safety in numbers, and 20 million witnesses are watching.

To the one who is tired,

You who used to march, and now watch from the window. You who used to argue in the family WhatsApp group, and now scroll past. You who used to wear the cap, and now keep it in a drawer.

You are not lazy. You are not weak. You are tired. You have looked at the rent, the school fees and the empty fridge and asked: what is the point?

This page is the answer. Not a speech. A bill.

From people who have been there too

What giving up costs you

It is not on a billboard. It is in your house.

The hospital1 : 4,300

One practising doctor for every 4,300 Nigerians. 16,000 have left. When your mother needs one at 2am, the doctor may be in Manchester.

The classroomAbout 6%

Education’s share of the 2026 budget, against the 20% they promised. 18.3 million children out of school. Your child’s teacher may already be gone.

The airport37%

of young Nigerians think a lot about leaving. Your brother hugging your mother goodbye, knowing he is not coming back.

The empty cot855,676

Nigerian children under five died in 2024. Not numbers. Unlived birthdays and mothers who never recover.

The kitchen table$53

What the minimum wage is worth. It was $92 in 2015. Giving up means four more years of this, or worse.

Your dignity₦2,000

What a vote was sold for in Anambra in 2025. Giving up is handing your PVC to a thug and saying: take it, I don’t care.

Giving up costs you the doctor at 2am, the teacher who japa’d, and the brother who is never coming back.

The trap

Your exhaustion is their protection

Here is what they hope you never figure out: they want you tired. They are betting that you will choose survival over struggle. Your exhaustion is their protection. Your surrender is their profit.

In 2023, 68.5 million registered Nigerians stayed home. The winner needed only 8.8 million votes. Every person who gives up makes their job easier.

Where these numbers come from

NMA and health ministry (doctors); Budget Office 2026 (education share); UNICEF (out of school, May 2026); Afrobarometer 2024 (emigration); UN IGME via World Bank (under-five deaths, 2024); CBN (minimum wage in dollars); Anambra 2025 observer reports (₦2,000); INEC 2023 (registered voters and turnout; stay-home figure is our arithmetic). Ideas adapted from the campaign film “The Cost of Giving Up”. 372,934 citizen agents is our arithmetic on INEC counts: two at every polling unit (176,846) and at every ward (8,809), LGA (774), state and FCT (37) and national collation centre.

Every figure on this site comes from a named public source, checked in September 2026. Where we did the arithmetic ourselves, we say so.
