“Technically defeated” in 2015. Deadliest year on record in 2025. They were wrong then and they are wrong now.

The kidnap economy

Your child’s school is a target

7,825people kidnapped between July 2025 and June 2026.
₦7.78bnpaid in ransom in that same year, three times the year before.
3.5mNigerians driven from their homes, living as refugees in their own country.

More than 1,700 children have been seized from their schools since Chibok. In November 2025, after two mass kidnappings in one week, the government shut 41 federal unity colleges.

Twelve years after Chibok, 87 of our girls are still missing, their parents said in April 2026. In 2015 the APC government said: “We cannot claim to have defeated Boko Haram without rescuing the Chibok girls.”

In 2015 they said Boko Haram is not defeated until the Chibok girls come home. Twelve years later, 87 are still missing.

Where the money went

Trillions spent. Villages still burning.

Nigeria spent ₦17.36 trillion on security in the five years to 2025. Governors still take “security votes” that nobody audits, estimated at $670 million a year.

The savings account the country kept for hard times held $2.1 billion in 2015. In 2018, $496 million was paid out for jets before the National Assembly approved it.
