They have 31 governors.
They are still afraid.
They control the presidency, 31 of 36 states and 88 of 109 senators. They have the police, the EFCC and the money. But they are not as powerful as you think. A party that sure of winning would not behave the way this one is behaving. Look closely. This is what fear looks like.
What they are afraid of
Confident people do not do this
- Why would a party with 31 governors keep buying more?
- Why freeze a state’s bank account 10 days before its election?
- Why squeeze the first January presidential election into a timetable set days after changing the law?
- Why hold a former governor, now in the opposition, for days across three agencies?
- Why charge a critic over a post and bar him from “inciting the public against Tinubu”?
- Why vote down real-time electronic transmission of results, days before fixing the election date?
- Why attack the man you say came third 30 times in five months?
Parties that expect to win do not need to do any of this. They are afraid. And the thing they fear most is simple: that Nigerians will come out in their millions and vote NDC.
They attack the man they say came third
INEC declared Atiku Abubakar second in 2023 and Peter Obi third. So who do the Presidency and the APC attack most? We counted every named public attack by Presidency aides, APC leaders and the APC campaign council reported in the news from 1 May to 27 September 2026.
Most attacks on Atiku are about his policies. Most attacks on Obi are about Obi himself. You do not spend that much energy on a man you think came third. You spend it on the man you fear.
Each distinct statement counted once, from dated news reports. Two statements that named both men are counted for each. Unreported radio remarks and social posts are not included, so both totals are likely undercounts.
They say Obi came third. They have attacked him 30 times since May. You don’t fight a man you think came third. #TheyAreAfraid
“An irredeemable liar.” “Licensed to lie.” That is not how you talk about a man you are not afraid of.
…my own enemies, who want to use insecurity to get rid of me. But I’m a very stubborn politician. I refuse to go.
Insecurity is not a plot against him. It is killing Nigerians. And on 16 January 2027 the only thing that decides who goes is the vote.

They are not as powerful as you think. They are afraid. They are afraid of you.
A party that is sure of winning does not freeze a state’s accounts 10 days before an election.
