They promised light.
You are still buying fuel for gen.
Of all their promises, this one had a number and a date. They missed it by 15,000 megawatts.
Generate, transmit and distribute … at least 20,000 MW of electricity within four years.
The grid sent out an average of 4,476 MW in 2025. That is 919 MW more than in 2015, after ten years.
They promised 20,000 megawatts by 2019. In 2025 the grid averaged 4,476. Your generator is their report card.
“A national shame”
On their very first day in 2015, the new APC government said: “It is a national shame that an economy of 180 million generates only 4,000MW, and distributes even less.”
Nigeria now has 237 million people. On a good evening in September 2026, 4,379 MW reached the distribution companies.
The grid has collapsed more than 100 times since June 2015. 87 million Nigerians have no electricity at all, more than any other country on earth.
In 2015 they called 4,000MW for 180 million people “a national shame.” We are now 237 million. The shame is still 4,000MW.
They tripled the tariff in 2024. The light did not triple.
Oil country. Imported petrol.
Eighteen times more. And diesel went from ₦844 to ₦3,277 between 2023 and 2026 alone.
They promised to fix the government refineries. From 2021 they signed nearly $3 billion in repair contracts. In 2026 the state refineries together produce nothing.
Port Harcourt ran for six months and shut in May 2025. Warri restarted in December 2024 and was idle by May 2025. Kaduna never restarted.
We were running at a monumental loss to Nigeria. We were just wasting money.
Nearly $3 billion in repair contracts. Zero litres of petrol from government refineries in 2026.
In 2023 they announced: “The fuel subsidy is gone.” Your pump price tripled overnight. Yet NNPC’s own accounts show ₦7.1 trillion spent on hidden fuel costs in 2024. You paid the higher price, and the country still paid the subsidy.
Nearly $3 billion of contracts to repair the state refineries. Petrol produced: zero. Their own oil boss said it: “We were just wasting money.”
They said the subsidy was gone. You paid ₦1,596 a litre. They still spent ₦7.1 trillion on it in 2024. Who is the subsidy for?
